BOGANTUNGAN QLD.

Bogantungan gets it name from Aboriginal words……bogan meaning grass and tungan meaning tree.

(Bogan slang in Aus also means uncouth or uncultured, feral, ratbag, reptile person🤣🤣)

Bogantungan is a rural town in the locality of Willows in the Central Highlands of QLD.

It was once a thriving town. In the early 1880’s, it had 28 hotels, several churches, numerous businesses and sporting clubs, and a racecourse!

Now it only has a total of 4 houses and nothing else.

Check out the mail box 😂🤣

A microwave…I’m not sure they even have a mail service here 😉😉

That’s it! 4 houses.

And the railway station..which is where we are camped at. It’s a lovely spot to camp, we have been here before. You leave a gold coin donation at the old railway museum building. There’s no power, but the suns out! And there’s a toilet.

With antibacterial hand wash 🤣🤣🤣

This building is the original Bogantungan railway water tank, now grounded, dating from 1916.

Unfortunately…… this place is also remembered for Queensland’s worst train disaster.

So sad as the children were on their way to a camp. The children that survived, are now in their 70’s and have never spoken about it since. They were asked to be involved in a book about it, but declined.

So very sad.😢

This little rest area where we are now, is a memorial to all those injured and those who lost their lives.
It’s a very pretty memorial place so those involved will never be forgotten.

People can leave little mementos….❤️

So as I write this, the train has just this minute gone through….it doesn’t stop, but slowly goes past with a toot….

I love our travels ❤️❤️

Stay safe 🦋🦋

Just wanted to end with a sunset….or two…

There’s just something about the outback ❤️
