MILLMERAN QLD.
Millmerran, known as Domville between 1 June 1889 and 16 November 1894, is a town in the Toowoomba region.
It’s a community arts project and a way of drawing attention to the Cultural Centre in the town. The local high school students drafted the pattern and the local council men built it.
And these 4 Murals are all about transport.
Starting with the horse…
Rail…
Transport…..( and it’s probably just me……but I’m sure the bloke on the top of the truck is about to give us all a “brown eye” 🤣🤣🤣🤣)
The Octopus, so called because it was a rare 8 Wheeler Leyland Truck and was only one of three imported into Australia. It could carry up to 70 bales of wool.
It has a population of 1,500 people. The town is on the Darling Downs, 208 km west of Brisbane. The Gore Highway passes through the town.
The towns name is believed to be derived from two words….. “meel” meaning “eye”…..and “merran” meaning “to look out” as Millmerran is near a lookout commonly used by the local Jarowair Nation Aboriginal population prior to European settlement.
The Bi-Annual Australian Camp Oven Festival is a nationally known event attracting visitors from all over Australia. It’s a two day festival celebration of all things Australian. It’s on again this October if anyones interested 😁
They even have The Biggest Camp Oven…..
I have no idea what that random toilet is doing in the background as its “not useable” says the sign on the door, it’s also very tiny.
So another “big thing” is the Cello…..
It’s a community arts project and a way of drawing attention to the Cultural Centre in the town. The local high school students drafted the pattern and the local council men built it.
They also have “The Big Books”
These were also built as part of the 7-day makeover of the town, and indicate the way through to the Library from the main business area.
The Murals……this project started in 2001 at the “bottom water tower”
It measures 72 meters long by two storeys high, and at the time it was painted, it was considered to be the largest of its kind in regional QLD
By walking in an anti-clockwise direction, you can see the transition from 1881 when Back Creek was the main water supply through to modern day bores, pipelines and computers.
