BRIBIE ISLAND. QLD

Bribie Island is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline sheltering the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland.

The others are Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island.
Bribie Island is 34 klm long, and 8 klm at its widest.

It has a population of 16,000. Most of the Island is uninhabited National Park and Forestry plantations.

Bribie Island hugs the coastline and tapers to a long spit at its most northern point near Caloundra, and is separated from the mainland by Pumicestone Passage.

On 2nd of January 2022, the ocean broke through the narrow spit of the island 2km from the northern tip due to Cyclone Seth culminating in a King Tide.

This event created a new passage 200 meters wide. With the ocean waves now able to break onto the mainland at GoldenBeach, there is significant concern for the effect this will have for residents and businesses there.

I just thought I would pop this photo in as well so you can see whereabouts we are staying in the area.

We are near Woody Point in Redcliffe, and at Scarborough last week.
It’s a lovely area as the photos show from the last blog. It’s got no  frills or glitz about it……it’s just a very quiet area as it’s always been, very unspoilt.

I will post more photos of Bribie tomorrow. To get to Bribie you have to drive off this Island and back on to the Brisbane/ Sunshine Coast Freeway..as you can imagine….with Christmas traffic it was a nightmare, and I thought if we don’t visit Bribie now…..we will have no hope of getting there as the traffic will be much worse and the population of the island will explode.

So as I’m knackered from driving….I will definitely post more photos tomorrow.

Take care everyone
