A TRIP AROUND THE PORT STEPHENS AREA.

Port Stephens is a local government area in the Hunter Region of NSW. Its north of Newcastle and a popular drive from Sydney, that has beautiful beaches, sand dunes and beautiful coastal walks. 

Unfortunately…..the weather was terrible today, it was warm, but so windy, as we are so near the coast. 

On the way I spotted a sign that said GAN GAN HILL & LOOKOUT……so a quick left turn, and we were going up a very narrow, steep winding hill. Half way up I thought to myself…..what have I got myself into 😳

When we got to the top, there were about 8 car parks and they were all taken bar one, which the car I had followed up, took. So while he squeezed himself into that car park, another car was trying to reverse out. 🫣😳

I think someone should have warned us before coming up here, there was limited parking. 
So we were just waiting for someone to reverse, while we were on the steepest of incline, (shitting bricks)

Happy to park, and get out of the car, we were so high up, and being that the weather wasn’t great, we didn’t get to see a lot. 














Such a shame, as on a clear day it would have been so beautiful. So then we had to get our car out, and back down. Ed got in the drivers seat and I guided him out, but there was another car that decided it wanted to come out first. 

Then a flower delivery van, (what the fck that was doing way up here was beyond me) decided she wanted to get out in a hurry and was about 1 inch away from scratching the whole side of our car until Ed blasted the horn and told her exactly where he was going to shove her flowers…..😂😂

It was a bloody nightmare. Anyway we made it out safe…..but no more lookouts.
Actually it should have a warning sign saying “there’s not much parking in a limited space.” 
Geez we have some adventures when we travel. 🙄

So from there we found a lovely little seaside town called Nelson Bay.



And further along there was a sign said Nelson Reserve Lighthouse. So up we went in the car, another small winding road. 







Photos don’t do this gorgeous area justice. It was such a beautiful place. 












This area has had so many shipwrecks along this coast, as we found out last night on our walk out along the breakwall.

After staying two days at Dingo, we decided we would move on. We thought the wind may have settled down a bit today, but of course…it was still blowing…so off we went to tackle it.  Luckily for us we had a great wind break all along as it was quite thick bush. 😊 So a big day driving……all of 40km 🤣…we arrived at Duaringa.  We have been here a few times before, but it’s one of our favourite camp spots.  There’s a population of 262 people.  The Dawson River is close by, and supplies Duaringa’s town water. The Dawson and MacKenzie River both join up north-east of Duaringa to form the Fitzroy River, which eventually flows through the city of Rockhampton.  A mural depicting the three rivers is painted on the back of the Duaringa Historical & Info Centre, facing the Capricorn Highway….. WANDOAN QLD

Wandoan is a lovely town in the Western Downs Region. It was formerly known as Juandah. In 1926, it was renamed Wandoan to avoid confusion with Jundah….near Longreach.  Population is 566…..with the median age of people being 38 years old! (You’d have to be young to work on this land) Travelling here through the bush, there were a lot of dead kangaroos (which isn’t unusual ) but there were loads of huge black bores dead on the road. Hate to hit one of those big buggers! There is no TV reception here, so every man and their dog has a satellite dish.🤣🤣 (Last night we stayed at the small town of Taroom….but they had no TV and no Internet!! 😳😳) Danny Deckchair made another appearance…..you kids will know what I’m talking about 🤣🤣🤣🙄 There is no rail service here,  so the old train station now houses the tourist info centre.  It’s a very interesting town.  Good doggie.. MORE TRAVELS BACK TO TWEED HEADS.

Left Forbes in the rain and headed to Dunedoo…population 1,000   Lighting wasn’t that good as it decided to come over stormy. We stayed the night at the small caravan park, $30….. bit overpriced, but like everything….the price has gone up.  Next day, after travelling on some horrific roads…..we got to Merriwa. We stayed behind the Pub, which was free, got some shopping an the local IGA, found this lovely Mural on the side wall made out of corrugated iron…. And basically stayed in the caravan as it rained all day and night.  Luckily next day, it had stopped raining, it was very muddy though where we were staying. Yuk  Headed off again, road conditions got worse, and stopped for the night at Gerry’s Plains.  It’s our usual stop free stop over. We found a nice spot next to the fence line, and had an audience as we set up. These horses are always here to greet you every time we come. So I had a lovely view while doing the dishes out of my kitchen window all afternoo...
