ANOTHER HOT HUMID DAY

We didn’t do much today as it was so hot and humid. You certainly know you are away from the coast here as you don’t get those lovely cool breezes……it’s just a hot searing wind.

Not sure if I mentioned this, but we were to stay here for a week, and when I went up to the office to pay another couple of days, I was told we had to get out of here Thursday morning. 

The reason being is they have a big outdoor concert on the weekend…….why he didn’t tell me that when we booked in I will never know. I wouldn’t like to be here for it anyway, so we are just going on to Taree earlier. 
The caretakers there are so lovely, so they won’t mind us staying a  couple of days longer. 

Just before dinner tonight there was all this commotion going on outside, we went out to see all our neighbours packing away their outdoor stuff away and putting in their awnings. 

We looked to the skies and saw why……




We were too late to pack anything away, or put our awning in……and the bloke next door said we were in for a terrible storm, and would advise to get our awning put in. 

With that the lightening started and we retreated inside as it was much safer…..if the awning was to fly off it would be able to be repaired….but getting struck by lightening is not on! 

But we weathered out the storm, everything intact, and we were safe.
Tropical storms seem to go as fast as they come sometimes. 









Tomorrow is pack up day, and then Thursday we move on, so stay tuned for the next episode.

DUARINGA QLD

After staying two days at Dingo, we decided we would move on. We thought the wind may have settled down a bit today, but of course…it was still blowing…so off we went to tackle it.  Luckily for us we had a great wind break all along as it was quite thick bush. 😊 So a big day driving……all of 40km 🤣…we arrived at Duaringa.  We have been here a few times before, but it’s one of our favourite camp spots.  There’s a population of 262 people.  The Dawson River is close by, and supplies Duaringa’s town water. The Dawson and MacKenzie River both join up north-east of Duaringa to form the Fitzroy River, which eventually flows through the city of Rockhampton.  A mural depicting the three rivers is painted on the back of the Duaringa Historical & Info Centre, facing the Capricorn Highway….. WANDOAN QLD

Wandoan is a lovely town in the Western Downs Region. It was formerly known as Juandah. In 1926, it was renamed Wandoan to avoid confusion with Jundah….near Longreach.  Population is 566…..with the median age of people being 38 years old! (You’d have to be young to work on this land) Travelling here through the bush, there were a lot of dead kangaroos (which isn’t unusual ) but there were loads of huge black bores dead on the road. Hate to hit one of those big buggers! There is no TV reception here, so every man and their dog has a satellite dish.🤣🤣 (Last night we stayed at the small town of Taroom….but they had no TV and no Internet!! 😳😳) Danny Deckchair made another appearance…..you kids will know what I’m talking about 🤣🤣🤣🙄 There is no rail service here,  so the old train station now houses the tourist info centre.  It’s a very interesting town.  Good doggie.. MORE TRAVELS BACK TO TWEED HEADS.

Left Forbes in the rain and headed to Dunedoo…population 1,000   Lighting wasn’t that good as it decided to come over stormy. We stayed the night at the small caravan park, $30….. bit overpriced, but like everything….the price has gone up.  Next day, after travelling on some horrific roads…..we got to Merriwa. We stayed behind the Pub, which was free, got some shopping an the local IGA, found this lovely Mural on the side wall made out of corrugated iron…. And basically stayed in the caravan as it rained all day and night.  Luckily next day, it had stopped raining, it was very muddy though where we were staying. Yuk  Headed off again, road conditions got worse, and stopped for the night at Gerry’s Plains.  It’s our usual stop free stop over. We found a nice spot next to the fence line, and had an audience as we set up. These horses are always here to greet you every time we come.
