FORBES NSW

After staying at West Wyalong for 5 days we thought it time to move on. 
We had a lovely time there, did lots of walking as the weather was just beautiful. 

So this morning we headed off to another one of our favourites…Forbes.

Over the years, this town has always been so good to us. We sheltered here over Covid, and every day would get a knock on the door to ask if we were ok. 

We again sheltered here when our car broke down, and was again asked if we were ok by the Forbes council people. 
The people are always friendly and always willing to help out. 

This free camp is situated on a lake. 



You can walk everywhere from the van. This walk takes you along the water and over the bridge ( which you can just make out in the distance)
Once over that one lane bridge, you go past the bowls club, (yep they are everywhere)







This is the outdoor area which looks over the lake where you can sit and have a coffee. (That reflection of the pedestrian bridge off the water!)Sometimes the ladies dragon boat team go up and down the lake. 

Past the bowls club and you are in town. So you don’t need your car. 



There’s a lot of Art Deco in the town.


Even Kmart has the art deco influence happening. 😂😂

There’s a lovely park with these gorgeous bulbs in flower.

I have to record what happened today. Ed has been wanting a new pair of bowls shoes as his old ones are ready for the bin…..and as we know they are quite expensive. 
Anyway, there was a Vinnies in town, and I love a good op shop…..so in we go, and I spotted a pair of bowls shoes. 
They were Taylor’s ……so I knew they were good, same brand as his bowls. 
I couldn’t believe my luck as they were the right size, and were brand new. 
These shoes retail for $125+……..
Omg he thought it was Xmas! Tried them on and fitted like a glove!

So, I paid $30 for these brand new pair of shoes. Thanks Forbes! I need to go back in there tomorrow to see if I can find a bargain or two. 😊

Minus 4 degrees overnight is ridiculous. 🥶🥶

    All the times I've been through Forbes and never stopped there. Looks so pretty..

    What a bargain on the bowls shoes! Hope you find more treasures 😉

Left Forbes in the rain and headed to Dunedoo…population 1,000   Lighting wasn’t that good as it decided to come over stormy. We stayed the night at the small caravan park, $30….. bit overpriced, but like everything….the price has gone up.  Next day, after travelling on some horrific roads…..we got to Merriwa. We stayed behind the Pub, which was free, got some shopping an the local IGA, found this lovely Mural on the side wall made out of corrugated iron…. And basically stayed in the caravan as it rained all day and night.  Luckily next day, it had stopped raining, it was very muddy though where we were staying. Yuk  Headed off again, road conditions got worse, and stopped for the night at Gerry’s Plains.  It’s our usual stop free stop over. We found a nice spot next to the fence line, and had an audience as we set up. These horses are always here to greet you every time we come. SEA LAKE, & MANANGATANG REVISTED.

We left  Charlton this morning in the fog. It didn’t take long to lift, and then the sun came through. It was a little windy, but luckily we weren’t driving into it.  As we do, we zig zaged and went the long way, stopping at Nandaly for lunch. Ed used to deliver there when he worked for Dons Smallgoods.  They have a pub, and the shop that Ed delivered to had been closed down for what looked like a long time.  Population 30  What they have done, is built a lovely free stop over for campers. There’s showers,  toilets, and two power sockets for caravans to plug into.  There was no one there to take advantage of it all though as they built it so people could drop into the pub for a feed.  So on we went after lunch along the Calder Highway and turned into what Google maps said was the way to Chinkapook.  Well we must have blinked as we couldn’t find it…….but 17 people live there! FROM MUSWELLBROOK TO GRAFTON NSW

Between Muswellbrook and Singleton there were quite a few huge coal mines, and a huge power station. This Lake was built specifically by this huge Power Station…to cool down it down…and at its deepest is 35 metres deep.   The next town from there was Singleton, another mining town. We stopped for lunch, got out of the car and there was a terrible smell…..which we thought was just from all of the mines. So we went to get Subway for lunch, in the big shopping centre there….sat outside and we could still smell it.  Finished lunch then all of a sudden the alarm went off in the big shopping mall….and a recorded voice said “This is an emergency ……evacuate immediately” 😳 …..turns out it was a gas leak…..so off we went far, far away and let the fire brigade deal with it. We then drove all the way back to Muswellbrook and we’re glad to get there.  Next day we headed off and we arrived at Grafton and found this a nice place to camp for  two days.
