WANDOAN QLD
Wandoan is a lovely town in the Western Downs Region. It was formerly known as Juandah. In 1926, it was renamed Wandoan to avoid confusion with Jundah….near Longreach.

It’s a very interesting town.

Good doggie..

So clever. All from scraps…and old tools.

With reticulated water no less…..🤣🤣👏👏👏…..and no charge to camp.
Population is 566…..with the median age of people being 38 years old!
(You’d have to be young to work on this land)
Travelling here through the bush, there were a lot of dead kangaroos (which isn’t unusual ) but there were loads of huge black bores dead on the road. Hate to hit one of those big buggers!
There is no TV reception here, so every man and their dog has a satellite dish.🤣🤣
(Last night we stayed at the small town of Taroom….but they had no TV and no Internet!! 😳😳)
Danny Deckchair made another appearance…..you kids will know what I’m talking about 🤣🤣🤣🙄
There is no rail service here, so the old train station now houses the tourist info centre.

In 1965, reticulated water (safe to drink) was made available to the residents of Wandoan, and in April 1999, this mural was painted on one of its storage tanks.
(It’s the bane of all us campers life…..we find a water tap….but the big decision is….is it “bore water….or Reticulated water) it’s a worry..🤣🤔🤔

And these are all the names of those returning soldiers that were allotted land
through that great government scheme.

It was taken by Phil at 3am on a winters morning in Wandoan.
The image is a stockpile of gas pipes set against the stars.
Wandoan is known for their stunning sunsets and amazing star display at night….being so far from big city light pollution.
So this natural beauty goes unseen in typical construction photos, so Phil wanted to promote the Gas Pipeline construction project he was working on while equally promoting the beauty of Wandoan, and the Outback.
This photo shows the pipe yard in a unique light, under the stars, before the pipes became part of the underground, never to be seen.
Hence the competition ….”In Site”. I thought that was just so clever.

And this is where we are camped for a couple of days.
With reticulated water no less…..🤣🤣👏👏👏…..and no charge to camp.
But we’ve already donated to the grocery store 😌😊😊
Oh and yesterday where we were camped…….their fuel was $2.39…..this morning it was $2.29……..yep……school holidays are over…..bastards. 😡😡 they just rip you off….
