EMERALD QLD.
We left our little 4 house town of Bogantungan this morning, along the Capricorn Highway and through the 265 million year old mountains of the Drummond Range, where you are able to find fossilised wood today.

They mine coal here and, it’s one of the largest coal reserves in Asia and the world.
You can see where the floods had been as they are slowly trying to repair the road and put drainage from the mountains, under the roadway.
The Range was very pretty, and you could go off the highway to a lookout, but as we were towing, we couldn’t take the caravan up to it.
After a coffee stop at the crossroads to Anakie, a small town, we continued on and arrived at the town of Emerald, which is known for its nearby Sapphire gem fields. It has a population of about 15,000, so it’s a lot bigger than the towns we have visited so far.
We are booked into the caravan park here for a couple of days as we are in need of a lot of food shopping.
It’s a nice park, and very busy, so we decided to stay in the unpowered section as it’s not so busy, and the only charge $16 @ night. Powered sites are $32.
We could pick our own site, and we are hooked up to water which is all we need.
They do a lovely fish and chip night, which we had, and they light a big fire that you can sit around and listen to a couple singing the old tunes.
They are a husband and wife team that call themselves …..”The Mouldy Oldies”
They did a good job.
I’ll take some photos tomorrow…….today was all about setting up and getting lots of food shopping as we have the major supermarkets here.
They mine coal here and, it’s one of the largest coal reserves in Asia and the world.
The Ensham Mine, has an annual production capacity of 7 million tonnes of coal.
This is a city of Mine Cars, Trucks, and a diverse population of mine workers….both male and female. There are also a lot of pubs to accommodate those hard workers.
There is also a cotton Gin…… as cotton is grown here as well. It’s a busy place.
Stay tuned …..π¦π¦
