THE SHIPWRECK COAST.

Following on from yesterdays post, this coast line is very rugged and there’s been so many shipwrecks.

Out on our walk from the park, you can see the names of the ships that were wrecked,  out on this rock wall.

This one is the wreck of the French four-masted barque Adolphe that sailed from Antwerp, September 1904.
The boat was struck by huge seas, coming into the Harbour and hit the rock wall. The Ships lifeboat was dropped  and the seamen slipped down the line one by one. It took half an hour for the 32 men to be placed in the life boat.
It’s estimated that over 200 vessels were lost entering or leaving this Newcastle Harbour. Although the remains of timber ships didn’t remain, the wrecks and hulls of steel and iron ships remained,  and were used in the construction of the breakwater wall here.

This was a great walkway out to see the wreck.

Our caravan park here is the only one available in Stockton and the whole of Newcastle, so as you can imagine, it’s super busy. I’m not surprised as it’s right on the beach and a you can walk along the river as well. It’s also just a short walk to the shops and the Ferry that takes you over to Newcastle.

This is the camp kitchen which is spotless and so huge.

Everything you need for a cook up.

Our showers and toilets are spotless, and there’s bottles of sanitiser every where. You need to put in a code to get your car in, and there’s even sanitiser right near the keypad.
They are so lovely in the office as well. It’s definitely going to be another favourite of ours and one to put on the
“Come-back” list. πŸ˜‚

And every morning we hear the Tug Boats go out and come back in with massive ships. It’s a very busy Port.
Bertie would have absolutely loved this place. ❤️

It’s the largest port on our east coast, with approx 4,400 ship movements per year. It’s also rated as the largest coal port in the world, exporting bulk cargo such as coal, grain, vegetable oils, aluminium, fertiliser and ore concentrates to markets overseas.
There is also a Cruise terminal here.

Tomorrow we are going to catch the Ferry over to Newcastle. Looking forward to that.

Stay safe everyone ❤️❤️
