HARD HILL WEDDERBURN.

Initially we were going to stay here, but we found it to be too uneven for the caravan. (Caravans need to be very level when parked, as our fridge runs on Gel, when we are not plugged in to power, so must  be level to keep cool) so instead we came to the caravan park where we are now at Wedderburn.

Hard Hill was such an interesting place.

It says here that European diggers would dig square holes for gold, but the Chinese would dig round holes because evil spirits could not hide in rounds holes. 😳

You can camp here…..and if you go to the tourist info centre, they charge you $20 for a key to the toilets and hot showers.
When you are leaving, you take the key back to the info centre, and they will refund your $20. How nice is that!

As well as gold fossicking, you can watch them distill eucalyptus oil.

They do lots of tours to Hard Hill , from school kids to people from out of the area.

This operates on the principle of evaporation and distillation. Leaves are boiled, steam rises, is condensed back to liquid through the condenser leaving pure eucalyptus oil floating on top of the water.

The smell of eucalyptus here was so nice, especially as we were in its natural habitat surrounded by eucalypt trees.

These were all the eucalyptus branches drying getting ready to burn and distill the oil.

It was a very interesting day, and Ed and I had the place all to ourselves.

The caravan park where we are here is full of older people that go out everyday with their metal detectors hoping to hit the jackpot. Good luck to them all. 😊

I forgot to add that we had a catastrophe (well I thought it wasπŸ˜‚) a couple of days ago.
Ed went to go outside the other morning and our door handle broke. 😳

We couldn’t get outside! So there was a lady going past so I yelled out to her through the window and asked her to please open the door……which she did.

So Ed went outside to get some tools to try to fix it, came inside …..and out of habit….shut the door again.

Shit …….how glad was I that I didn’t do that….πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Ed didn’t see the funny side for some reason πŸ€”

So now what?

So I then had to ring the park manager to come down and open it again…..so funny as he said that he’s been rung for a cup of sugar and lots of other things….but never to come open a door πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚…..again I thought it funny …..🀣

So of course Ed tried to fix it, but being cheap plastic shit…..it wasn’t possible.

A phone call to the nearest caravan sales centre, (50 klm away) produced no joy.
He didn’t have any, so somehow we thought we would have to tape the whole door shut until we drove back to Mildura.

We have a lovely Scottish man next door to us. He is travelling by himself now as his wife has passed away. Malcolm had seen we were in a pickle, and had a look at it but had no answers.

But later that day we had a knock on the door and Malcolm had found a door handle to suit our van that he had had tucked away under the bed……as men do.

So we now have a handle and the door can be locked. This one does have a little crack in it, but will do till we get back to the JAYCO dealer in Mildura.

Malcolm had commented on our sensor lights on our van, so, Ed went into he’s bags of tricks under the bed and found two spare ones, which he gave to him as a swap. He was thrilled.

It’s nice that we can help out one another. 😊

Stay safe ❤️❤️

Well
