LAST DAY AT BOORT VICTORIA.

We have had a great couple of days at the Boort Showgrounds.
The wind disappeared and the sun finally came out so walking was a pleasure today.

We walked up to the shops for our last shop here, came home and had lunch.
The houses in this town are just gorgeous and the land that came with these homes is just huge. There seems to be a lot of elderly people that own these homes, as you see them in their gardens as you walk past, and they always say hello. (We will be on first name basis if we stay any longer πŸ˜‚)

This man, John Piccoli, was a retired farmer, living on the property in Boort, North Central Victoria that was selected in 1876 by his grandfather.

After contracting Polio in 1949, John carried on farming his third generation property from a wheelchair before retiring to become an accidental artist.

John sourced Antique Spanners from far and wide to create his many sculptures, eventually he was convinced to open up his farm to visitors.
The tourist attraction welcomed 300 people in its first year, and 20years later, it attracted 100-200 visitors a day!

He vowed he would never end his days in a nursing home, rather he wanted to go peacefully sitting at his workbench, with his thousands of spanners.

He passed away in 2021 aged 79.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to see his farm as it was closed, but you can see a few of his works around the town.

This is one of his works, a comfy chair for all to sit on. All spanners.

Another seat…what a talented man.

The lake was lovely today. We came across this contraption on our walk…

Move houses!!!! 😳 ?? Sheesh….🫣

And this tree that grew around an old tree trunk. Nature is amazing.

So that’s our time in Boort. Tomorrow we are off to another town Ed has found.

Take care everyone ❤️❤️
