LAST DAY AT WEDDERBURN.

We’ve just spent 8 lovely days at Wedderburn. It’s such a lovely little town and so friendly. I suppose when you go to the same shops and see the same people, they get to know you ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
It’s such a friendly place.

We found one more walk to do, and it just happened to start from the back of the caravan park that we’d only just found.

A steep climb, through the bush and following the red arrows…..

Lovely Autumn colours….

We came to the local Skinners Flat Reservoir, which is located about 9km out of town.
The reservoir provides water to the Wedderburn sports grounds when there is water available, as it relies on the catchment run off from the surrounding area.

Fortunately for Wedderburn, the reservoir has been included in the pipeline project and will be constantly filled, which will provide a beautiful recreation area for the locals and visitors.
It offers, great bush walks, camping, swimming, fishing & yabbying, Pit toilet ๐Ÿ˜–and picnic areas.

The reservoir is located in the Wychitella State Forest, and there are often fox baits laid, so people are warned to look out for signs to protect your doggies if you are walking in the bush.
We have met some lovely campers who have had their doggies die through eating those baits. ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿฅบ☹️

It was so pretty with its reflections of the trees and little white jetty.

So we followed the track and we came to a sign that said “Lonely Grave”…..

Thomas arrived in Melbourne during September 1850 and became a shopkeeper in Collins street, presumably selling giftware, clocks, jewellery and smokers pipes, which his brother shipped out to him.
He wrote many letters, ( which can be Googled)to his wife, 2 children, sisters and brothers saying the business was suffering due to the exodus of people going to the gold rushes at Bathurst, Bendigo and Ballarat.

It’s not known when Thomas reached Wedderburn, but it is known that his grave was dug very close to his tent, in the bush here. How sad.

Wedderburn’s fame is, it is claimed that 80% of the worlds largest nuggets have been found within 40km of the town.

*****We never stubbed our toes on a big one while walking around the
 Golden Triangle ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Stay safe ❤️❤️
