GOONDIWINDI PT 2

Image
It was expected to rain today……(and it did)….so we went out this morning for another very long walk.  We did the river walk and found that our family …(.FOCKERS Senior and Junior)  have connections to this river. The Macintyre River is part of the Border Rivers catchment, the streams of which flow from the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range. The border between QLD & NSW follows the Dumaresq and Macintyre Rivers from the top of the range between Stanthorpe and Tenterfield, which in turn is then called The Barwon, which leaves the border, and just above Bourke, The Barwon becomes the Darling, which eventually joins …….The Murray that runs through Mildura!! 🀣🀣🀣 and there’s the connection…..the FOCKERS love the Murray River……..so that leaf I threw into the river today…will be coming your way soon! This is the border of Queensland and ( once you cross the bridge you are then back in ) New South Wales…..πŸ₯°πŸ₯° Stay safe πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹ ****** it’s finally stopped raining…. πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹

GOONDIWINDI QLD

Goondiwindi is a rural town on the border of Queensland and New South Wales. It’s a bigger town of 6,500 people.  The name Goondiwindi comes from an Aboriginal word with Goondi, meaning droppings or dung..πŸ™‚…..and windi meaning duck……so we are now staying at  “Duck Poop” ShowgroundsπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ It’s $25 @ night here with power and water, and we were also lucky enough to be here while the “Camp Draught” was on this afternoon.  It was really chilly in the wind, so didn’t stay long. As the riders got the cows through the obstacles in a certain time, they were then put out to the paddock behind the ring. And then the “cow whisperer” did his magic and they all faced forward for a photo shoot 🀣🀣🀣 (Still got shorts on) We then drove into town for a look around. Being Sunday, it was nice and quiet. Victoria Hotel.  The original building was a single story wooden structure with a tin roof. Hitching posts and horse troughs flanked the then, dirt tracks. It has been operating as a pub since 1920 when

MILLMERAN Pt 2

It was a very cold night, but we turned the diesel heater on about 5am and the van warmed up nicely enough to go back to sleep again! πŸ™„ So we are staying at a freebie camp that is in within walking distance to the town centre. There are a few people camped in here with us, but not many which is nice.  There are no facilities, but we have those on board, but they do provide water.  I found this next photo on google. What a different looking place in the spring compared to the winter picture. Still it’s a very nice spot. Over the road from us is a private property.  I can only see a lady there by herself every day. She has horses and there’s about 6 dogs with her.  I sat there watching her today thinking how nice that small property would be to own.  She has that oblong caravan sat on her property with a lovely veranda on the front. I would be happy to have that plot and grow veggies on it with the doggies running around keeping the snakes away πŸ™‚ She also belts out some great music!

MILLMERAN QLD.

Millmerran, known as Domville between 1 June 1889 and 16 November 1894, is a town in the Toowoomba region. It has a population of 1,500 people. The town is on the Darling Downs, 208 km west of Brisbane. The Gore Highway passes through the town. The towns name is believed to be derived from two words….. “meel” meaning “eye”…..and “merran” meaning “to look out” as Millmerran is near a lookout commonly used by the local Jarowair Nation Aboriginal population prior to European settlement.   The Bi-Annual Australian Camp Oven Festival is a nationally known event attracting visitors from all over Australia. It’s a two day festival celebration of all things Australian. It’s on again this October if anyones interested 😁 They even have The Biggest Camp Oven….. I have no idea what that random toilet is doing in the background as its “not useable” says the sign on the door, it’s also very tiny.  So another “big thing” is the Cello….. It’s a community arts project and a way of drawing attention to

AND HERE WE ARE AGAIN.

So here we are again! Back at Lake Clarendon.  We are here so often I think we will get our mail delivered here 🀣 As you all know, we could only stay a week at Tweed, unfortunately, but it is what it is so off we go again.  This time, when we get to the top of Toowoomba Hill, we will turn left, for a different way to go.  Stay tuned..we are looking forward to a different direction.  Stay safe πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹

TWEED HEADS. NSW JULY 2022

It’s nice to be back home……it’s lovely catching up with family and all their news ❤️…….but…..the crowds here are unbelievable! I think we need to “go bush” again 🀣🀣 There’s so many people in the park, (how dare they!,🀣) and we should have realised from all the caravans on the road while we were away….. We are at our usual caravan park…..but we could only get in for 1 week!!! They are all booked out for the winter months…..C’est La Vie……(translated……. Stiff Shit!!)🀷‍♀️ We will enjoy Tweed for the week….then off on more adventures.  The weather has been terrible, but a trip to the beach is always lovely, no matter what the weather.  It was very windy, and the chill factor wasn’t good….but the waves were huge, and the beach was closed…..but that didn’t stop the surfers.  It was “goin off”….πŸ€™ The bush turkeys up in the tree were hanging on for dear life. πŸ™„ I was a bit far away….so it’s not that visible………but the man at the end of the rocks is playing a Didgeridoo.  His name is Russel
