HOME AT TWEED HEADS.

Image
It’s always lovely to come home after being away. Sometimes we forget what a beautiful part of Australia we get to live in while we are away travelling as there are so many interesting and beautiful places we are lucky enough to visit. But as soon as we get home and get to hear the squeak of the sand, those blue skies, and lovely beaches….we are just so thankful we live where we do…..in a lovely place.  While we have also had some terrible weather……we are so happy to be home..there’s no place like it. 🐠🐬🐳🏝🏖 ❤️❤️❤️ Snapper Rocks.

HOME.

We arrived home to Tweed about 10 days ago now. We left Millmeran and just kept going straight home. The weather was the main reason we wanted to go home without stopping as we were in for quite a bit of rain and wanted to try to get home before it all started.  We had a good run home, booked into the park and were able to pick our own site as it was quite empty. I think the weather has put people off travelling at the moment.  So we set up and we are booked in for a couple of months. It’s strange to think that this time last week our beautiful spot at Moree is now totally under water.  The town has really suffered badly and the wheat crops that is their main income  is now under water as well.  This is the Showgrounds at Moree and this view is from the Caretakers Cottage.  They are a lovely couple that are so welcoming every single time we visit. The do a great job looking after the huge Showgrounds and the amenities are always spotless.  This photo is the lovely camp kitchen that is

NEARLY HOME. PT3

It’s been nearly 3 months since we left home to travel down to Mildura. I couldn’t believe it had been that long…..but we were parked up in Mildura for 2 of those months.  It was lovely to catch up with all of the family, and we had good intentions of travelling around Victoria and going over to South Australia before going home.  But as we all know…the rain and floods put a stop to all of that, so we decided to make a dash for home as we didn’t want to get stuck anywhere. So we have come full circle now and we are camped at Millmerran  again for the night before heading down the Range at Toowoomba tomorrow. This place is where it all started 3 months ago. 🥰 They also had a bit of rain the night before so finding a dry spot was a bit hard but luckily we found one.  We love this little town. It’s so friendly and the camp is supplied free of charge….they just ask you to spend a bit of money in the town and drop your docket in the box provided …..which we did.  Ed bought some caravan par

GOING HOME PT2

We left this morning and drove the 100 klms towards Moree, NSW Again, the roads were atrocious, and there was lots of huge wide loads to contend with as well. It was ok for the support vehicles to say move over…..but there was no where to “move over” too as it was just too wet, muddy and soft on the side of the road  😳🤬🤬 Plus there is the new railway line going from South to North of Australia being built……and we are following along beside it so you can imagine the heavy machinery moving about there. The Pot Holes continued and were getting worse. So as you can imagine…..those 100klm took a very long time.  But……the good news is…..we are now parked up at beautiful  Moree Showgrounds for 5 days.  The sun is shining……and it’s warm. I will enjoy this break while I can as we have lots more driving to do.  Take care ❤️❤️

GOING HOME.

After being in Mildura for 8 weeks, and celebrating lots of Birthdays…..we decided instead of travelling around the rest of the State, we would get back to Tweed as there’s just too much flooding happening everywhere.  So we spent the first night at Hay in their Services Club.  It was nice to have dry grass underfoot for a change. There were a lot of travellers heading South to their homes to try to avoid bad weather and lots of flooding that was occurring…..and we were going North….which was a concern.  We had no choice as we really wanted to get home. Oh Lordy though …….the condition of the Road was absolutely dreadful.  The Pot Holes were big enough and deep enough to swim in!! The roads were so rain effected, the huge Road Trains were just tearing the bitumen up. It couldn’t be helped….as the roads are just so soft.  Where there was suppose to be wheat fields…..it was just an inland sea. Luckily we got through the worst of it…..avoiding the holes and snakes looking for a dry home.

RIO VISTA PART 3

Image
These last couple of photos are the end of this post of Rio Vista. The marble fireplace was made and imported from Italy and the wallpaper is English Willesden and flooring is Western Australian Jarrah, so as you can imagine, no expense was spared, and was sourced from Australia and overseas.  So down the stairs, and into the basement is where they hosted all the functions as that’s where the pantry and kitchens were located. The stairs leading down there creaked, so the father would know if the children of the house had snuck out of their beds to have a peak at all the lovely gowns of the ladies at the ball, and the yummy food that was being served. Lovely stories.  So that was the end of the tour of the house. We then went to the newer addition which was an Art Gallery (you may have heard the groan from Ed when I walked in there) but he did come in and had a look around…under sufferance. 😂😂😂 They had an exhibition on there from a young artist.   I hope you can read it as it’s a gr

RIO VISTA HOUSE PT 2

The windows in this house were just gorgeous. Depending on where you were in the house……the sun would come streaming through them. They were made in England and shipped out in pieces to be placed carefully in the different rooms as they all told a story of the Orange Groves, Wheat & Grapevines, which make up a huge part of Mildura.  This room, with its beautiful floors and beautifully restored wallpaper, was Mrs Chaffeys’ bedroom.  The bed was iron, with the chamber pot under the bed as the “lavatory” was way down the back yard.  The ceramic pot on the bed was her Hot Water Vessel which the maids would put in her bed every night (as we all know how cold Mildura can get in the winter with their frosts.)  The strip of material halfway down her bed was called “The Invalid Tidy” It was where she kept her reading glasses, handkerchief and medications. Through the door was the sewing room…..and also the bathroom.  As it was back then in those days……the boiler was lit once a week and wate
