WOODY POINT. QLD

Image
Woody Point is another little seaside suburb of the coastline here, about 1.5 klm from where we are staying, and is a lovely walk along a pathway, through lovely parkland…..along the coastline.  We decided to do the walk last night as there weren’t many people around and it had cooled down a bit.  The view is looking back towards our caravan park, with the lights reflecting off the water.  This is at the Point, where you can’t walk any further…..but you  can walk along a Jetty. ( There are Jetties everywhere here 😊 )  Ed’s photos always make me laugh…..he’s normally always walking in front of me as I’m always dragging the chain as I like to take lots of photos….so he just dawdles along……until I call his name ðŸĪĢðŸĪĢ…..then he turns as I take his photo just as he’s saying “what?” Cracks me up…..he’s just so patient. ❤️ This monument has been designed in the shape of a Sailors Hat, and shows old photos of bygone times here. During the day…as this place shows up a bit better on my photos….

SANDGATE QLD

Image
Just over the causeway, about 11 klm from where we are staying, there’s the lovely, small coastal suburbs called Sandgate, Shorncliffe & Brighton.  The town became a popular destination for the people of Brisbane in the early 20th century and remains popular due to its coastline, including Lovers Walk along the Bay between Sandgate and neighbouring Shorncliffe beach.  This 350metre long pier has stood since it was finished in 1884 and is popular for morning jogs or evening strolls.  The annual Bluewater Festival which is held of the Easter long weekend attracts lots of visitors to watch the offshore start of the Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race. Sandgate was a popular seaside destination for Brisbane’s colonial settlers in the late 1800’s. it’s rich historical past is a feature of the area today, with many homes and buildings reflecting the classic architectural styles of this bygone era.  The pier used to have swimming baths attached to it when it was first built…..boys on the lef

BRIBIE PHOTOS.

Ed had a bad night last night with Covid….feeling really unwell and couldn’t eat anything at all which is so unlike him. It seems like you have really good, and  bad days with this virus….he woke a bit better this morning….but I’m having a yuk sort of day with it all today and  we still have no taste.  Anyway enough of that….we had a good day out yesterday and it was so nice to get out and breathe in that lovely sea air.    It was a lovely warm day yesterday, and Bribie turned it on for us.  Everywhere we go, the council do such a great job in keeping everything so clean.  The gardens are also immaculate. The seating under the trees and the tables are so welcome especially with the weather up here.  We were able to get a seat all by ourselves away from other people, to enjoy our takeaway coffee.  That’s for the “Bin Chickens” So that was our day over on Bribie Island. It was so nice to get out…masks on though. 😷😷😷

BRIBIE ISLAND. QLD

Image
Bribie Island is the smallest and most northerly of three major sand islands forming the coastline sheltering the northern part of Moreton Bay, Queensland.  The others are Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island.  Bribie Island is 34 klm long, and 8 klm at its widest.  It has a population of 16,000. Most of the Island is uninhabited National Park and Forestry plantations.  Bribie Island hugs the coastline and tapers to a long spit at its most northern point near Caloundra, and is separated from the mainland by Pumicestone Passage.  7 On 2nd of January 2022, the ocean broke through the narrow spit of the island 2km from the northern tip due to Cyclone Seth culminating in a King Tide.  This event created a new passage 200 meters wide. With the ocean waves now able to break onto the mainland at GoldenBeach, there is significant concern for the effect this will have for residents and businesses there. I just thought I would pop this photo in as well so you can see whereabouts we are sta

CLONTARF

Happy 21st Birthday Noah. Hope you have a great night…..and sorry we couldn’t be there with you tonight. Love you ❤️❤️ Well here we are 8 days after my last post. Let’s start with a Covid update and get that out of the way.  Ed is now testing negative, and I’m still testing positive, I’m on day 6…….There was a three day gap  between us…. Hopefully it won’t be long till we are Both testing negative.  We moved from Scarborough last Friday and set up here at Clontarf in the local caravan park. I was worried we wouldn’t get here as poor Ed wasn’t that great, but it didn’t take long and we were set up.  We are across the road from Moreton Bay, so we get nice sea breezes here. There is a lovely walkway that goes for a very long way, and hopefully when we feel better, we will be able to walk it.  At night, you can see the lights of Brisbane and the wharves. You can also see the planes landing at the Brisbane Airport. We are only 27 km from Brisbane, but far enough away to feel we are not in a

BLOWING A GALE & AN UNHAPPY CHAPPY

Image
We woke up today to a very humid, windy day, so just stayed at the caravan park and watched everyone pack up and head home.  There will be a lot of people arrive for Xmas soon..there are a few people here already as they have their Xmas lights up and on.  So Ed has woken up this morning with a terrible cough and runny nose. I didn’t have any Covid test kits left so I had to google to see where I could get some from as I know the chemist doesn’t give them out any more.  So off I went to the community centre and she gave me 6 packs, as there was 2 names on our pension card. Thanks 👍 So we did the test …. And luckily it was negative…..he will do another test tomorrow…..but what I’m thinking is more likely…..it’s been really windy and there’s lots of pollen around….so it’s more likely hay fever.  But poor Ed always coughs from his boots….so I’ve given him a hay fever tablet….which didn’t do much…and will go to the chemist tomorrow for some cough mixture….and he’s been swallowing honey……as

REDCLIFFE

Image
Today went for a drive to Redcliffe as I wanted  to go to Jaycar (an electronics shop) as they had a sale on. I wanted a “step counter” for when we do all our walking……and they had a fit bit style  one that you wear on your wrist ……and wasn’t too complicated for my brain. ðŸĪŠðŸ§ After that we went to the waterfront and parked the car for a walk.  I must explain that the whole area where we are staying is like a big Peninsula…..not that far from Brisbane. It’s called “Moreton Bay” Once you leave the beautiful surf beaches of the Gold Coast….you don’t really see surf beaches again until Caloundra, Sunshine Coast… which is about 75 klms from here.  Bribie Island is situated between here and the Sunshine Coast, (which is where we may go to stay for a while after we leave here at the beginning of January)…and that too is situated in Moreton Bay.  Anyway …….what I’m trying to explain in my roundabout way is that the “beaches” here are in a Bay… and don’t have the beautiful blue water that we a
